After the town of Pumares, turn right (North) at the city of San Ramon. (Follow the volcano sign.) |

At the end of downtown, follow the volcano sign again and turn left. After a block, turn back right (North). ~ 1 mile of heading up steep hills through residential suburbs, veer left at the Y in the road. Veer left at the next Y also, continuing to follow the volcano signs. |

The following is a suggested shortcut that will save about 25 min. and will go through beautiful scenery. (If you choose to skip the shortcut, continue to follow the volcano signs and skip to the *.) Turn right at the Y in the town of Bajo Rodriguez. At the bottom of the hill, take a right at the Y (Note: the volcano signs will point left.) Don't bother paying the tollbooth since it's voluntary. Heading into Santa Clara, you will pass over some narrow one lane bridges. (Note: A triangular sign that reads CEDA is a yield sign.) |

Tun left (West) at the intersection next to the soccer fields. Follow this road for about 30 km past the towns of Angeles and El Tanque to Fortuna. (Note: Fortuna is the best place to stop for gas and groceries.) Head through Fortuna towards the volcano.* If you missed the shortcut, turn left in Fortuna. Driving along the base of the volcano, follow the road 18 km past Tabacon Hot Springs and continue on the road across Lake Arenal dam. |

At the end of the dam, take a sharp right to the Arenal Hanging Bridges. Follow the gravel road until you see the sign for the Lost Iguana Resort. |
